Alcove Areas and Discharge Lounges

At Garnet Health Medical Center, to improve patient throughput and ensure patients are placed in the appropriate areas at the right times, Alcove Areas are utilized as temporary spaces for admitted patients who are awaiting room availability. Alcove Areas can also serve as a convenient space for discharged patients who are ineligible for the Discharge Lounge, ensuring their comfort and care while they await departure. These semiprivate spaces are monitored by nursing staff and provide patients with a comfortable area to rest until their assigned room is ready or their transportation arrives. Using Alcove Areas helps us reduce delays, optimize the use of available resources and maintain efficient care delivery during periods of high patient volume.

Discharge Lounges are used to provide a comfortable space for patients who have been discharged by their provider but are waiting for transportation. While in the Discharge Lounge, patients can relax, watch TV or nap. Our staff will continue to check patients to ensure their needs are met while they wait for their ride. The use of our Discharge Lounge helps us improve efficiency and patient flow while maintaining patient comfort.

Discharge Lounge is available Monday–Friday, 11:30 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.
