Medical Education at Garnet Health Medical Center
The mission of Medical Education at Garnet Health Medical Center is to prepare residents and students to be excellent physicians by educating them in the fundamental concepts, knowledge and practical applications of skills taught by a team of dedicated medical professionals.
Garnet Health Medical Center strives to maintain an academic environment committed to the highest of standards in education and medical care. This approach fosters excellence in the education of physicians during residency, students during their clerkships, and attending physicians with CME credits during their career.
Our local community has been invigorated by a sense of medical academia which is transforming our towns and is having a profound impact on the quality of healthcare in the Hudson Valley.
Garnet Health Medical Center encompasses many phases of medical education including:
Graduate Medical Education
Garnet Health Medical Center is continually transforming from what was a small community hospital, to a formidable teaching hospital. These residency programs were born out of the desire to improve regional health indicators, help local economies and provide educational opportunities that were not originally available in the Hudson Valley. We are proud to have produced several residency programs that have obtained both AOA Accreditation and ACGME Accreditation.
Our core and non-core faculty have been trained at world-class teaching centers and are dedicated to cultivating an academic environment for each rotation. We have extensive didactic programs, including daily lectures, Grand Rounds, Journal Club, and SIM curriculums. Over 160 preceptors selflessly give their time, energy and passion to training resident physicians throughout their time at Garnet Health Medical Center.
Research
The collective will of our Medical Education Department is to become a nationally recognized academic medical center. Research and Scholarly Activity are areas being continually placed in the forefront of all programs for residents and medical students.
Our residents and rotating medical students have presented at regional and national conferences, authored publications, journal reviews, and books. We believe in collaborative research, pairing an attending physician with a resident and a group of medical students.
