Proceeds to Benefit the Thomas V. Guarino Family Academic Fund

Orange Regional Medical Center Foundation will host a Global Reception for Good Health to be held on Thursday, November 15, 2018 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Brotherhood Winery, 100 Brotherhood Plaza Drive in Washingtonville, NY.

The reception will benefit the Thomas V. Guarino Family Academic Medical Fund. The Academic Medical Fund is an endowment fund that provides support for academic medical excellence at Orange Regional Medical Center.

“Supporting this important event will help us expand the fund and create a broader learning environment which will help attract this nation’s best medical residents and students which will hopefully bring more doctors to serve for our community,” said Orange Regional Medical Center’s Designated Institutional Officer/Director Academic Affairs Dr. Ronald Israelski. “All contributions are extremely appreciated.”

During the Future Is Orange Capital Campaign, the Guarino family provided a lead gift to create a fund for academic medicine and research. To date, the fund has assisted physicians at the Hospital with the creation of a research program for Alzheimer’s disease. The Medical Research Committee, who oversees the fund, approved funding to support a medical resident’s trip to Nepal to speak to the government about its health care system. Funding for surgical wounds research and new approaches in post-surgical research is currently up for consideration.

Funding for research was not previously available at Orange Regional Medical Center, a teaching hospital. According to the Association of American Medical Colleges, teaching hospitals train hundreds of thousands of new doctors, dentists, and nurses every year. Teaching hospitals also help discover cures and provide critical services that save lives every day.

Teaching hospitals provide around-the-clock, onsite care and are fully staffed with standby services for critically ill or injured patients. A significant number of patients are often transferred to these hospitals because their illnesses or injuries require a sophisticated level of technology and expertise not available at a non-teaching facility.

The Global Reception for Good Health fundraising event will be filled with delectable dishes from countries including Spain, Croatia, France, Germany and China. The cocktail reception will include international food stations, dessert and live music.

Sponsorship opportunities are available.
