The only hospital in Orange County to be recognized by the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation Quality Improvement Program with this designation.

Garnet Health Medical Center, formerly Orange Regional Medical Center, is proud to announce that its Bariatric Surgery Program has achieved the highest designation possible as a Comprehensive Center with Obesity Medicine Qualifications by the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP).

“Being recognized as a Bariatric Comprehensive Center with Obesity Medicine Qualifications validates the high level of work done within the program,” said Garnet Health Medical Center’s Medical Director of Bariatric Surgery Dr. Seth Judd. “Patients can take comfort in knowing that they are receiving excellent care.”

Garnet Health Medical Center is the only local hospital in Orange County to pass a rigorous inspection and clearance, having met all of the standards required by the MBSAQIP Bariatric Surgery Steering Committee to achieve the additional designation of Obesity Medicine Qualifications.

The addition of Obesity Medicine Qualifications is a natural progression for Garnet Health Medical Center’s Bariatric Surgery program which opened in 2008 and received Bariatric Center of Excellence accreditation in 2011. Re-accreditations occurred every three years after inspections completed by bariatric surgeon inspectors in 2014 and 2017.

Garnet Health Medical Center’s Bariatric Program is committed to Garnet Health’s mission, vision and values. This additional division of the bariatric program provides patients with a multidisciplinary approach to the treatment of obesity through non-surgical techniques, incorporating guidance and support from the Obesity Medicine Director, Registered Dietitian, Behavioral Health Therapist, and life-style counselor throughout treatment.

MBSAQIP® is a joint quality program of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS). The MBSAQIP Standards, ensure that metabolic and bariatric patients receive multidisciplinary medical care, which improves outcomes and long-term success.
Garnet Health Medical Center’s Bariatric Surgery Program has been recognized by Heathgrades for Superior Performance with the Bariatric Surgery Excellence Award recognition for 5 Years in a Row, is a Five-Star Recipient for Overall Bariatric Surgery for 7 Years in a Row and is among the top 10 percent in the nation for Bariatric Surgery.
