Infertility Symptoms, Causes & Treatment
Symptoms
Not getting pregnant is the main symptom of infertility, but sometimes there are other obvious symptoms. Women who are not conceiving also may have:
- Irregular periods
- Absent menstrual cycles
- Signs of hormonal imbalances (changes in hair growth, rapid weight gain or loss, loss of libido)
Causes
Infertility can affect one or both partners. Sometimes the issues are genetic, but infertility can also be caused by medical issues or unhealthy habits that develop later in life. Risk factors that can cause infertility include:
- Tobacco use
- Excessive alcohol use
- Sudden weight loss or gain
- Excessive physical or emotional stress resulting in amenorrhea (absent periods)
- Exercise issues associated with frequent, strenuous workouts

- Uterine or cervical abnormalities
