The Reiki Therapy Program at Orange Regional Medical Center recently received a donation of awareness pins from the Corinne Feller Memorial Fund for Ovarian Cancer Research and Awareness. The pins remind inpatients at the hospital to ask their nurse about Reiki which is a non-invasive, gentle healing discipline that promotes comfort and rest through balancing the body’s energy centers.
Reiki offers a natural approach to healing and wellness when combined with traditional therapy as prescribed by a physician. Regina Toomey Bueno, Senior Administrator of Oncology at ORMC said, “We’re very thankful for the support of the Corinne Feller Memorial Fund, which provided the initial funding that helped us start our complimentary therapy program several years ago. Reiki is not a cure; it is a relaxation technique that releases and restores energy flow, allowing the body’s own natural healing ability to work. This form of therapy promotes healing to the mind, body and soul- the whole being.”
Nicole Feller Lee, Founder of the Corinne Feller Memorial Fund, who lost her 18-year-old sister Corinne to ovarian cancer, said that Reiki was one of the things that eased her sister’s pain as the disease progressed. “It’s an honor and a fitting tribute to Corinne to be able to help ORMC provide pain relief and healing to patients who need it most.”
In addition to Reiki, ORMC Complementary therapies include:
- Aromatherapy
- Pet therapy
- Virtual reality
- Music therapy
- Harp therapy
- Guided imagery
- Osteopathic manipulation therapy
