Garnet Health Announces Board of Directors Updates

MIDDLETOWN, NY (June 5, 2024) - Garnet Health is pleased to announce the following updates to its board of directors.
Virginia “Ginny” Rizzo has been named the new chair of the Garnet Health Board of Directors. Rizzo is vice president of Rizzo, Inc., a commercial moving company. Her career includes 24 years with International Paper’s Corporate Research Center in Tuxedo, New York, a Fortune 50 corporation and the world’s largest paper company. During those years, she advanced from a research and development scientist to leadership positions in training, development and human resources, retiring as a laboratory director. She is also the retired owner and president of Eclat, a management and human resources consulting firm.
Rizzo previously served as the board chair for Garnet Health Medical Center, formerly Orange Regional Medical Center. The organization broke ground for their new hospital in Middletown during Rizzo’s tenure, from 2008 to 2010. She has also worked on a volunteer basis with various Orange County nonprofits, including Leadership Orange, Cornell Cooperative Extension, Women of Achievement, Girl Scouts of America and the Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA). Additionally, she has served as a board member for Orange Bank.
Bonnie J. Orr, CPA, is the vice chair and treasurer of the Garnet Health Board of Directors. Orr has over 40 years of experience in taxes and accounting, and is a partner with PKF O’Connor Davies LLP and PKF O’Connor Davies Advisory LLC. Orr also specializes in estates and trusts. She works closely with clients and their attorneys, providing estate and personal tax planning strategies. Currently serving as an officer and board member of several local charities, Orr is also a past president of the Hudson Valley Estate Planning Council. Orr currently serves as an officer and a board member of several local charities.
Elizabeth (Lisa) Sassi, DNP, RN, and Stephen Scott join the board as new members.
A registered nurse since 1983, Sassi is the district nursing coordinator for the Monroe-Woodbury Central School District. She also serves as the districtwide Monroe-Woodbury medical coordinator for the Emergency Response Team and Healthy Schools Committee, and is a former K-6 health education department chair as well as a member of the Institutional Review Board. Sassi is a member of the Orange County Crisis Team for Critical Incident and Stress Management, and a former member of the Orange County Medical Reserve Corps.
Scott is the executive vice president and chief operating officer for Walden Savings Bank. He has nearly 20 years of experience in the banking industry. Throughout his career, his responsibilities have included business planning and implementation as well as coordinating and directing daily activities of multiple banking departments. Scott has experience managing 14 full-service retail bank branch locations across Connecticut, Massachusetts and New York. He has served extensively on several executive leadership committees.
Frederick A. Watson has been named treasurer of the Garnet Health Medical Center – Catskills Board of Directors. Watson is the founder of both Three Cities Management and Watson Services. He has more than 35 years of highly diversified and successful food service management experience with a wide range of clients, including the United States Military Academy, the National Guard Professional Education Center and the United States Coast Guard. Watson currently serves as chair of the Orange County Community College Board of Trustees. He’s also a voting member of New York Community College Trustees and a member of the board of directors for the Boys & Girls Club of Newburgh.
Phillip L. Massengill, MD, FACS, has been named treasurer of the Garnet Health Medical Center Board of Directors. He is the immediate past board chair for Garnet Health. Massengill joined the medical staff at Garnet Health Medical Center in 2006. He is a partner at ENT and Allergy Associates in Middletown, New York. Massengill is board certified in otolaryngology and head and neck surgery, and is a fellow of both the American Academy of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery and the American College of Surgeons. He is a board member of the New York State Society of Otolaryngologists and is a member of the Medical Society of Orange County, New York. Massengill has several published works and has earned honors and military awards. He has also served in several medical staff leadership positions.
