Obstetrical Care Through Pregnancy & Childbirth
The utmost goal in our obstetrics services is to help women feel safe, empowered, and beautiful during their unique childbirth journey, and ultimately to deliver healthy babies safely. Your pregnancy and the birth of your child will be among the most impactful and memorable events of your life – and we are so happy to be a part of it!
We strive to facilitate a satisfying and healthy pregnancy and delivery – and we find that this is uniquely defined and influenced by many factors, personal preferences and values. With each new patient, we collaborate on birth goals and medical needs, to set expectations early on and continue to monitor you and your baby’s health.
With an integrated approach at Garnet Health Doctors, you can receive the benefits of holistic care from our team of providers. The Family Birthing Center at Garnet Health Medical Center - Catskills, as well as the Rowley Family Birthing Center and our Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Garnet Health Medical Center can provide you with additional services.

Whether your experience began with a positive pregnancy test, or after months of trying to conceive, we take great pride in providing support and education to patients based on their need and desire. We provide expertise in prenatal and fetal conditions, diagnostic testing and procedures – including, but not limited to:
- Blood tests
- Ultrasound testing
- Vitamin intake
- Morning sickness
- Weight control
- Preeclampsia
- Braxton Hicks
- Ectopic pregnancy
- Pre-term labor
- Miscarriage
- Gestational Diabetes
Each trimester holds a new set of symptoms, fetal development milestones, and things to consider. Our goal is to partner with you during this journey and prepare you for the birth of your child, followed by the joyful – yet challenging – first months of motherhood.
Labor and Delivery
It is very common for women to feel nervous and anxious about the labor and delivery stage on their journey to motherhood. No doubt, this is a precious event and rite of passage for women across the world.
Throughout your pregnancy, you may hear stories of other women’s experiences, their tips or their “horror stories.” While it can be helpful to get advice from family and friends, please remember that everyone experiences childbirth very differently. Even child to child, you may experience completely different deliveries. It is important to manage your expectations and prepare for all possible outcomes.
Don’t worry! We are here to help answer all of your questions. And we are trained to manage unexpected issues that may arise. During your office visits, especially in your third trimester, we will discuss a variety of topics including:
- Stages of labor
- Pain management
- Vaginal delivery
- Cesarean (C-section) delivery
- Common medical interventions during vaginal birth, such as: induction and episiotomy
We encourage you to vocalize your birthing plan, goals and personal preferences when it comes to medical interventions, labor conditions, and newborn care. The ultimate outcome we strive for is a happy and healthy mother and child.
Postpartum Care
After childbirth there is a host of new challenges and conditions to consider. Vaginal and C-section births have unique recoveries and we strive to prepare you for postpartum. What needs to be ready at home upon your return from the hospital? Do you have a support system in place? Are you prepared to care for your newborn?
These are just a few of the common discussions, support and resources we help to facilitate for our patients:
- Recovery tips (vaginal and C-section)
- Breastfeeding, pumping, and formula
- Infant care
- Depression
- Support Resources
We will schedule a six or eight week follow-up postpartum visit with you to offer physical assessment and provide support and advice on breastfeeding, baby care, contraception and other challenges you may experience.
Choosing a Provider Who is Right for You
We encourage you to explore your options when choosing a women’s health provider. This is an intimate journey and it’s important for you to seek out a family medicine provider who can offer you with health care services that feel right for you.
Finding a provider who is supportive, and one with whom you can talk with honestly and openly, is one of the most important things you can do for your health. For the different ages and stages of your life - puberty to post-menopause, we will be there to help you maintain health and prevent illness.
